NFL – A Short Guide

The National Football League was founded in 1920, it was originally known as the American Professional Football Association before it was renamed the National Football League. It has got the highest average attendance of 67 591 of any professional sports league in the world.

The NFL is the most popular sport in the United States. The Super Bowl is amongst the biggest club sportsevents in the world. Green Bay Packers has the most NFL titleswith 13; Pittsburgh Steelers has the most Super Bowl championship with 6tittles.

Composition of NFL

The National Football League consists of 32 teams, the teams are divided between the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC) equally.

NFL is considered to be one of the major professional sports leagues in North America. It is the highest professional level of American football in the world and also one of the most trusted by American online bookmakers.

The season starts from early September to late December. Every team plays 16 games and having one bye week. After its conclusion, six teams from both conferences (four division winners and two wild-card teams) will advance to the playoffs.

An elimination tournament called the Super Bowl is usually held on the first Sunday of February. The match is played between the NFC and AFC champions.

Pre-Season

The NFL preseason begins with pro football games. Each NFL team is recommended to schedule four pre-season games, two of which must be at its home stadium.

Teams which will be involved in the Hall of Fame game and any teams playing in an American Bowl game have to play 5 preseason games. The preseason games are referred to as exhibition matches do not count towards regular season totals.

Regular Season

The league runs for about seventeen weeks, there are 256 games in a season. Since 2001 the season has begun the week after Labor Day and concluded the week after Christmas.

The opening games of each season are usually a home game on a Thursday for the league defending champion. Most NFL games are played on Sundays.
