José Mourinho signs three year deal with BT Sport

July 11, 2014 - Staff@sportsontelly

bt_sport_studioBT Sport has signed Chelsea manager José Mourinho to serve as a channel ambassador, football expert and programme maker.

His first appearance as part of the three year deal will be in a new BT Sport TV advert which debut on Saturday 12 July at 20.50 before the Brazil v Netherlands game.

Mourinho said: “I’m looking forward to working with BT Sport.  In their first year they have shown they are not afraid to challenge, are open to new ideas and want to do things differently. This is the kind of team and ambition that I want to work with.”

Grant Best, senior channel executive producer, BT Sport, said: “ José Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of all time.

“He is a double UEFA Champions League winner, has won seven domestic league titles including the Barclays Premier League, which he has won twice, as well as numerous domestic cup competitions including the FA Cup.

“To add this winning mentality and wealth of experience to BT Sport’s football coverage, and with the UEFA Champions League coming to BT Sport next season, is simply fantastic.”

Mourinho’s role as a football expert will include providing a manager’s perspective as part of the channel’s coverage of English Premier League and European competitions.

BT Sport’s portfolio includes rights to live top tier matches from the FA Cup, Scottish Professional Football League, UEFA Europa League and the German Bundesliga, Serie A in Italy, Ligue 1 in France, Brasileiro in Brazil and Major League Soccer in the USA.

In addition to Mourinho, BT Sport’s new run of adverts will feature Liverpool and striker Daniel Sturridge and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The channel’s second season will also be supported by outdoor poster sites, press, online, radio and social media activity.

David James, marketing director, BT Consumer said: “BT Sport’s first season was packed with so many unmissable moments.

“The adverts we’ve created dramatise those moments and look forward to another season of top class Barclays Premier League action.  We want to remind people who missed BT Sport’s first season that you really have to see it to believe it.”
